Scouting America has two types of uniform:
Class A Uniform: The class A uniform is the formal uniform that you think of when imagining scouts. Troop 455 expects scouts to be in their class A uniform for the regular scout meetings, court of honor meetings, certain ceremonies like flag raising, and all travel to and from outings (class A uniforms are generally not required while at the outing).
Class B Uniform: The class B uniform is just a scout-themed T-shirt. Troop 455 periodically creates new class B shirts and distributes them to the scouts. You can also purchase class B shirts from the Scout Shop or other online sources. Class B uniforms can be worn in situations where class A uniforms are not required but some scout-themed uniform is desired.
For the class A uniform, Troop 455 requires following items:
Shirt: The beige scout shirt is required and should have the following components:
➢ Shoulders – green epaulets
➢ Right Sleeve – American flag patch and patrol patch
➢ Left Sleeve – Atlanta Area Council patch and troop number “455” patch
➢ Right Front – Scouting America embroidery
➢ Left Front – Scouting America crest patch, rank patch, and Arrow of Light patch (if applicable)
If your scout was a Cub Scout Arrow of Light, then you probably already have the appropriate shirt and just need to switch out some patches. If your scout achieved the Arrow of Light during their Cub Scout career, then the Arrow of Light patch can remain on their uniform as noted above.
Note that you will not initially have the patrol patch for the right sleeve or the rank patch for the left front. Those will be provided once your scout is assigned to a patrol and achieves the first rank of Scout. You can have the scout shop sew on patches or sew them on yourself – or better yet, have your scout sew them onto the shirt.
Pants: The green scout pants are required. Note that these come in a convertible form that can be worn as long pants or short pants.
Belt: The green belt with the scout emblem buckle is part of Troop 455’s uniform. Beyond the above items, the green scout socks are nice to have and good for camping.
Note that the following uniform accessories are not required for Troop 455: Neckerchief & Hat
You can purchase scout uniforms in person at the Atlanta Scout Shop located at 1800 Circle 75 Parkway near Truist Park and the junction of I-75 and I-285. Since your scout is still growing, it is always a good idea to buy a uniform that is a little larger than necessary to have room for growth.
